“Best coach you could ever want for yourself or your kids”
From the reviews
School of Grappling is an excellent organization. Lead by coach/black belt Mike Maher the school is the best in Long Island in my opinion. He offers wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and both programs are high level but at the same time made for all.
Coach Mike has such a gentle giant vibe to him. Teaches and guides kids where they gain confidence and skill at a rate I've never seen. No frills straight skills would sum it up.
If you are looking for a great facility in Nassau County for youth wrestling or BJJ School of Grappling is your place to be! Coach Mike is patient, kind, doesn't yell at the children yet they all listen to him and show respect.
Coach Mike, is one of the most patient, technical, and passionate coaches I have ever met. His innate ability to instruct all levels from youth to adults, is exceptional. There is a reason why he has trained countless county and state champions in wrestling and jiu jitsu. I highly recommend the school of grappling!
Your first BJJ class at School Of Grappling
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
