From the reviews
Steve Santiago is one of the best instructors I've ever shared the mats with in all my years of training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. He works very well with children and adults, sharing his passion for this incredible martial art.
I go here, it's an awesome school taught by a Gracie BJJ blackbelt. They recently added wrestling, boxing, & muay thai teachers as well. Professor Steve is extraordinarily patient and hella funny. It's a lot of work to get promoted, but really all you need to do is commit to showing up & you'll improve.
If you are looking for a place with high level Jiu Jitsu and Knowledgeable instructor this is the place to be. Professor Steve has always gone above and beyond to help anyone that's ever reached out.
My Father and Coach Gill has brought a couple of our teammates to this school and they have been nothing but professional and awesome to work with, Professor Steve is professional and very knowledgeable from his stories of his Journey and Jiu Jitsu lineage to just being real as a Coach this school is an awesome place…
Your first BJJ class at Ricardo Cavalcanti bjj Rhode island
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
