From the reviews
I was a visitor. The owner Rob, Professor Bruno and Coach Jose are all genuine, professional and caring people. They as well as every student welcomed me and showed nothing but respect! Very polite people. The gym is very clean and well ran.
Back in January, my son and I signed up to start our journey with Gracie Barra Jefferson City. Within two weeks, my daughter wanted to start training! Not only were they welcoming from the get go, they were very patient and really took their time to teach the warm ups and techniques.
We enrolled my four year old three months ago. He was struggling with ADHD, aggressions and impulse control. Since starting at Gracie Barra, his behaviors have gotten substantially better at both school and home due to the discipline they instill in the sport.
Started my boys here in August of 2021, they were 3 and 6. Could not be happier. Coaches Rob, Jose, Kristen, Austin Professor Dennis have all been fantastic. The boys love it and they are learning, making friends and getting in great shape.
Your first BJJ class at Gracie Barra Jefferson City Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
