“All three of my sons train here—my oldest for over 4 years, my middle for over 3 years, and my youngest for over 1 year, and I’ve been attending myself for around 6 months.”
“As a woman, I really appreciate that while the gym isn’t overflowing with women, it’s rare that I’m the only one in class.”
“From the coaches to people in class (future teammates if you decide to compete)- everyone is super welcoming, and there to help you improve day in and day out.”
“They also continue to grow their female student group - with monthly women’s open mats and beginners classes.”
“If you’re looking for a great place for your child to build confidence, learn self-defense, and be part of a positive community, I highly recommend Fenix Jiu Jitsu!”
“I absolutely love training here and would highly recommend Fenix Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to anyone, whether you’re a complete beginner or a more experienced grappler!”

From the reviews
My son has absolutely loved his Jiu Jitsu classes at Fenix! From day one, the coaches have been incredibly patient, professional, and motivating. They do a fantastic job balancing discipline and fun, which keeps the kids engaged and excited to learn every week.
I started attending the Fenix BJJ Academy the summer of 2023, and it has been one of my greatest decisions to date. As a guy that had been involved with playing rugby for the last decade, BJJ was the perfect sport to transition to, keeping the hard physical work, but less of the smashing.
Fenix BJJ has been a great experience for me and my child. The “little grapplers” program has been so fun and educational for my kid, he’s always looking forward to the next class. He learns self defense through JJ while also having a lot of fun!
Fenix is truly an incredible place to train. Every single coach brings their own unique style to the mats, and the best part is that each one is knowledgeable, experienced, and genuinely invested in helping you improve. There isn’t a bad coach here.
New to BJJ? Start at Fenix Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Fenix Brazilian Jiu Jitsu comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never rolled or set foot on a mat, that's exactly who a good beginners program is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or flexible to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale the intensity to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard rolling — reputable gyms build fundamentals (positions, escapes, and basic submissions) for weeks, live rolling eases in gradually, and tapping early keeps every roll safe. Third, all levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out, and leave your ego at the door. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first BJJ class at Fenix Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
