From the reviews
Amazing school and instructor! Samson is a very valuable teacher who has trained in Judo, BJJ, Wrestling, and even Sambo and he is very helpful at allowing you to understand how these different arts flow together.
DAGR is hands down the best spot for No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu in Raleigh! The coach is awesome, the training partners push you to get better, and the vibe is super welcoming. Whether you’re looking to compete or just level up, this is the place to be!
I misunderstood the schedule/gym location and Samson quickly answered my phone call and invited me to the proper location for a roll. I had an amazing time. Samson’s dedication and knowledge pertaining to both functional fitness and grappling is immediately apparent.
Great gym, great instructor. Samson is legit— skilled in jiujitsu and knows his stuff in other martial arts like judo, which he works into the training perfectly. Solid place to sharpen your game in no-gi jiujitsu and submission grappling. If you want to get better, this is where you train.
Your first BJJ class at DAGR Submission Fighting Institute - Jiu Jitsu & MMA
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
