From the reviews
Having trained all over the US (Seattle, New Orleans, Atlanta), this is one of the best schools I have trained out. The instructors are amazingly patient and talented. I am that student with all the questions. Also, I finally took the the leap and reluctantly took a kickboxing class.
I have been training here for about a year and a half and the experience has been very fulfilling. The staff are very encouraging and help create a community of martial arts practitioners that care about others as much as themselves.
My 5-year old grandson who takes karate at BBJ, is gaining ability, both physically and mentally in a most fun class structure! I couldn’t ask for a better instructor than Mr. Leaf! He teaches students to focus, to concentrate, to respect, self and others. He packs his 30-minute lessons fully with varied activities.
Our 6 year old has been taking Karate here for the last year, and our experience has been amazing. The teachers are serious yet fun, so while the kids learn discipline as well as martial arts, it never feels like boot-camp.
Your first BJJ class at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
