From the reviews
Can't say enough about how wonderful the instructors are at the Bay Parkway Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu location. They are a perfect mixture of fun and discipline, and my son LOVES going to class. Not only is it a great workout but also the best way to teach young kids patience and understanding.
When I first signed up one of the instructors from this location reached out and was eager to help me reach my goals. A year and a half later, both the respect and knowledge I’ve gained from each instructor for both Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing has been invaluable.
This is more than just another activity for my son. Brooklyn BJJ has incredible teachers who care about their students and work hard to teach them not only martial arts but life lessons that they need to grow into well-rounded adults. Brooklyn BJJ is also a community and their special events for Halloween, St.
Started going to the dojo last year and it's been an amazing experience. It's good exercise and self defense training especially if you're a smaller person or starting out not super athletic. The instructors do an excellent job of explaining, re-explaining, and breaking down techniques.
Your first BJJ class at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
