From the reviews
This is a great gym with an outstanding training staff. My son has been training with Professor Kevin and Coach Winter for over two years, and his experience has been nothing but positive. He truly enjoys attending classes and has built great relationships with his coaches and great friendships.
Blackrose is the best jiu jitsu gym around and the Professor and coaching staff is outstanding. I have kids in multiple programs here and they always have the best time. The training environment is respectful and fun and is truly just an amazing place to be even as a spectator.
Our 3 kids followed Professor Kevin because of his commitment to his students. They have been under him for 2+ years. He’s a Professor with character and integrity. I highly recommend anyone coming in to check out Black Rose!🌹🥋 No one in the area has his knowledge and skill set!
We had an amazing experience at this jiu-jitsu. The coaches are knowledgeable, patient and truly care about the kids and everyone. Since joining my son has gain confidence, focus skills and determination to get better. Coach Kevin truly believes in every kid and does an amazing job to make them feel comfortable.
Your first BJJ class at BlackRose JiuJitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
