First week of taking classes for my 6 year old and he loves it. The instructor is awesome and I highly recommend this place. Great atmosphere and also a great way to tire out your wild kids.
Update November 2021. The new schedule has gi classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and no gi-MMA classes on Wednesdays. Fridays are less formal and have a open mat format. The updated schedule has an open mat night on Fridays, replacing an adult class. The school and people are welcoming and gracious.
WonBjj is definitely one of the great jiu jitsu schools in LA. I started training here about 2 years ago and can say it’s a great workout and one of the coolest gym communities I’ve ever been apart of. Our professor is a wizard on the mats and we also have some really great purple/brown belts.
WonBJJ is a great place to learn both self defense and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a wholesome and respectful atmosphere. Master Won is a great teacher with alot of patience and knowledge to teach anyone at any age and level of experience!
Your first BJJ class at Won Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
