From the reviews
This place has a great bunch of coaches that truly care about teaching. If you're on the fence, give this place a shot, you won't regret it.
I've been training with Wichita Jiu Jitsu club for just under a month. I absolutely love it. I was looking for something to replace weight lifting (shoulders & joints are nearly shot). My only regret is I didn't find this sport and THIS club sooner. As a lovely side effect I've lost 23 pounds since I started.
I was in town for work and wanted to get in a little training while away from home. Coaches and fellow students were very helpful and great to work with. I heartily encourage people to check them out whether you live in Wichita or are passing through like me. Thanks!
Top notch instruction from Professor Chris, extremely clean school, amazing, welcoming environment. Was in town for work and was thankful enough to be able to drop in and train with the Wichita Jiu-Jitsu team. Highly recommend to anyone looking to train in Wichita!
Your first BJJ class at Wichita Jiu Jitsu Club
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
