My 4 yo daughter has been a student at UGA since March 2025. In the last 10 months she has gone from shy to her self to a confident two time gold medalist at the Grappling X Championships. She has learned valuable skills like leadership, confidence, social skills and best of all self defense!
This is by the far the BEST MMA facility I have ever been in. The owner/instructor is a NO Nonsense individual with extensive background in Mix Martial Arts. More importantly, upon speaking with him, it is evident that he has tremendous passion for his craft and really good with kids.
We have been going here for 7 months now. My 6 year old loves it! He is focused, his skill is improving, and he is confident on the mat. Coach Tyson is great with the kids, even my 2- year old loves him! The kids can come in 30 mins early and/or stay 30 mins late 4 days during the week + occasional weekend access.
Best grappling gym there is. Love how they cater to all ages and are so inclusive. My brother has flourished since joining this gym. The coach is amazing and a great teacher. Definitely recommend this place for people of all ages.
Your first BJJ class at Universal Grappling Academy
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
