I train in Charleston, SC but grew up in Wexford. When I come home to visit family at Team Junqueira. Not only is the facility top notch but the instruction is first class. Upon entering the school each person came up individually and introduced themselves (It was incredibly welcoming.
This Academy is a great place to train for all ages. There's classes for kids & adults. The owner & head instructor, Rodrigo, is a dedicated teacher and family man from Brazil. If you're looking to train authentic Brazilian JiuJitsu, without the hassle of traveling to Brazil, this is the place for you.
This place has changed my life, for the better, and continues to. I become physically and mentally stronger as I continue to train. Rodrigo is a wonderful instructor and a wonderful person!
Highly recommend this place for anyone that would like to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Pittsburgh area, very professional instructors and a great Jiu Jitsu Master.
Your first BJJ class at Team Junqueira Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for Adults and Children
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
