From the reviews
This is a great gym that I have now been a member of for 2.5 years. This gym has given my entire family valuable skill sets and a level of confidence that we can take with us anywhere in life we want to go. It sounds cliche but it’s also a great way to loose weight and get in shape.
I have trained at multiple BJJ schools locally, and in different states over the last 4.5 years. SMAA Texarkana is like no other Jiu Jitsu academy I have every trained at with the exception of SMAA in Bossier City. It is equally as awesome. This academy is immaculate. Everything is thoroughly cleaned after each class.
My family of 6 all train at this location. My son and I compete regularly, and there is not another gym in town with the same pace or quality of instruction. I never imagined in my 30s that BJJ was something i would be so hooked on, but it has definitely improved my health both physically and mentally.
I can’t recommend SMAA enough. It’s truly the best jiu-jitsu gym I've ever been a part of. It’s been life changing for me, not just physically but also helps with mental toughness. The sense of family and character building here is incredible.
Your first BJJ class at SMAA Texarkana/Jiu Jitsu, Martial Arts & Fitness
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
