“The facility itself is always spotless, mats are clean, the space is well maintained, and it's clear that cleanliness and hygiene are taken seriously here.”
“Rather than overwhelm you with 10 new moves that you’ll forget before you get home, Shaun focuses on one or so moves each class, then follows it with rolls.”

Had a great time learning gi jiu jitsu here as a drop in. Fantastic school in Rensselaer, truly a gem. Friendly instructor and students, they were great and welcoming to me as a newcomer. The 10-round training after class was the best workout I’ve had in a while. Thanks!
Great place to train. Offers classes for kids, young adults, and adults. The instructor, Professor Shaun, has a great deal of experience and is great to learn from. Highly recommend.
I can't say enough great things about Sanchez Jiu Jitsu. Professor Shaun has built more than just a gym, he's built a true community. Everyone, from white belts to advanced students, is welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely invested in each other's growth. The adult classes are challenging, fun, and well structured.
I’ve trained bjj off and on for over a decade and have dropped in and trained at dozens of bjj schools. I dropped in on Shaun’s school, Sanchez Jiu-Jitsu, and think that it’s the tip of the spear of quality bjj education, community, and chill vibes.
Your first BJJ class at Sanchez Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
