From the reviews
I have been training at Sabre since 2017 (or maybe 18…?) since my very first day as a newbie White Belt. I ended my time here as a Purple Belt. I would otherwise plan on staying all the way through until my very last training day, but I am moving and will have to say goodbye to this wonderful community.
Sabre jiu jitsu has changed my life for the better. Such a warm and welcoming gym. From day one the upper belts would pull me aside and show me the ropes to get me comfortable. They have some of the best hours to work with my crazy schedule and being a father and husband.
Visited a Sunday open mat this past weekend and really enjoyed my time there. Emailed Professor Bryant and he was very responsive. Everyone was really cool, rolled with a few folks. Good mix of belts, mostly high belts which was awesome. Saw lots of judokas and stand up practice.
The kind of place where the mats are as welcoming as the instructors. Coach B, Cutter, and Issac are black belt ninjas with hearts of gold. Whether you're looking to break a sweat or break a submission hold, this spot has you covered.
Your first BJJ class at Sabre Jiu Jitsu Academy
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
