From the reviews
We are so thankful we found Ruiz Grappling Academy! Coach Roger is amazing, knowledgeable, patient, and has a great sense of humor, with both the kiddos and adults. My husband, and my boys and I have been able to bond over learning Jiu Jitsu together at this gym and truly look forward to our times here.
The best family oriented Jiujitsu and wrestling gym. Teaches respect and discipline. Our son has gained so much confidence in himself and learned so much in just a couple of months. We are proud to be apart of the Ruiz Grappling Academy family!! *Come try out a free session you may love it too!
My family and I love that it is a very family oriented gym. Coach Roger is a great instructor. The kids class really enjoy his direction and playful energy. My husband, myself and daughter are members of this gym and have learned so much while gaining a second family.
Great humble instructors. Welcomes all skill levels. Amazing classes for adults and kids. My kids are enjoying the growth and knowledge given and skills learned. Family driven ambiance. Instructors go above and beyond for each student. No one left behind.
Your first BJJ class at Ruiz Grappling Academy
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
