From the reviews
I had the pleasure of training here since this gym opened, receiving my purple and brown belt from Coaches Jeremy and Andrew. This gym is nothing short of top notch. It is abundantly clear that cleanliness and professionalism are the main goals of this gym and they can be seen and felt.
I was there on a night when Coach Andrew and Assistant (?) Coach Dale were teaching. Went to watch the kids class with my friend and his son, and stayed for the adult class. Kids class was taught well for the huge range of ages and sizes of the students, and the class was structured and organized.
Hands down best academy. They answer every question, return every call. Their technique of teaching is amazing. The kids respect them and have fun. The list goes on and on You feel like you’ve been there a a year on the first day!! The other places your just another membership.
Kid’s been and stuck with Gracie Barra Pueblo nearly a year now-outstanding school, instructors, environment, structure, and expectations of students. Everyone welcome. Training is experiential, highly active and hands on, not practiced in theory. Top notch for my student.
Your first BJJ class at Pueblo Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
