From the reviews
I’m a black belt in BJJ. I just moved to the area and I’m looking for a gym for my son. Here’s my unbiased takeaway from our trial class visit: At the time of this review, it’s a newer jiu jitsu location (4 months old), lots of mat space, the place is very clean, located near the 29 and 183 intersection.
Joining Pragma Jiu-Jitsu early on has been a fantastic experience. The academy has an incredibly welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel part of the community right away. The instruction is highly knowledgeable, with a great emphasis on solid fundamentals and steady individual growth.
I recently joined Pragma Jiu Jitsu and cannot recommend it enough! It’s the kind of environment that welcomes everyone, whether you're a kid, an adult, or just starting out as a beginner. The coaches are patient, knowledgeable and the members are super friendly.
Pragma has a really great foundation when it comes to Jiu Jitsu. So much that I have also included my family in the program. Everyone is welcoming, caring and respectful. They have great customer service and clean facilities!
Your first BJJ class at Pragma Jiu Jitsu Leander
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
