From the reviews
Been training at Phenon for more than 8 years now. Absolutely love this place. Professor Martin and the team are the best. They ran an awesome kids program. The coaches truly cares about their students. For adult classes, expect deep knowledge of BJJ technique breakdowns and live rolls at least 30 minutes.
We have seen and experienced several JJ institutes, and Phenom immediately stood out. The facility is brand new, modern and practice friendly. They have state of the art spring boards for the entire practice area! There are at least 4 supervisors at each practice, at least 2 of which are black belt professors.
I absolutely love this gym. Been training here for around 3 months now and I've been to other gyms and nothing beats this. Phenom has amazing professors and Professor Martin is my personal favorite, he's always checking in on me to see if I'm going to class and teases me for days I miss class 🤣 Gym has really great…
I was in town for the night and dropped in to the evening class. Everyone was very welcoming. The lesson was great and the rolls were awesome. Don’t underestimate Johnny though, he’s really good.
Your first BJJ class at Phenom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
