From the reviews
Totally wicked gym!! It’s a great place to train regardless of if you’re competing or just doing BJJ as a hobby. Ive been actively training for a little over a year, and it’s crazy to see the progress I’ve made under the guidance of the coaches and even under the other members at Palm.
Top-notch training by highly skilled people. My 9-year-old son recently started learning here and the entire team including coach Carl was very involved. The training is good exercise, good for instilling a well-disciplined mindset, and of course self-defense amongst other things.
Best place I have ever rolled at. Friendly coaches, friendly students. For $85 a month with no tied in contracts, it is exceptionally priced and fair by far when compared to other martial arts studios near and far. It's located almost directly across from SVSU, so you can't miss it.
I’ve trained at a few gyms in the tri-cities and this is by far the most comprehensive and technical instruction I’ve ever received. It makes my prior training look ridiculous. Not only is the instruction great but the gym has multiple black belts and serious competitors to learn from.
Your first BJJ class at Palm BJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
