Came down to Nogales to visit family over the holidays and wanted to get some training in. Andy is an awesome instructor and person. The gym welcomed me as if I had been training there for years. It was such a great, welcoming environment that I think everyone interested in jiu jitsu in Nogales will benefit from.
I served in Iraq with Andy, Ive also spent countless hours hunting with him. He is an awesome person with high integrity and indisputable character. Ive also rolled with him and have him watched him develop his skill set over the years. If I was closer I would train with him again.
This place is sick I been coming for a month and have enjoyed my time so far. The instructor is very helpful and doesn't mind repeating positions. Other students are a blast to train and roll with as well. This place truly is a hidden gem in Nogales
Had great training experience with coach Andy was only in town for 2 months for work. I got to drill a lot. Anything I struggled with, he was able to help step by step. Can't wait to come back again next year too see how the gym has grown.
Your first BJJ class at Nogales Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
