From the reviews
I moved to Oregon 5 years ago and Next Level was highly recommended to me by my Professor in Colorado. I started training Jiu Jitsu here 5 years ago and I’ve not only been able to improve my jiu jitsu, I’ve also started consistently strength and conditioning training thanks to the programs at the gym, and I’ve been…
I’ve trained here consistently for a couple years now and hope to continue for many more! Lessons are cohesive and well thought out which is a game changer if you’re someone like me who Ioves jiu jitsu but doesn't feel like it comes naturally.
Visiting a friend in Portland I took the chance to train at Next Level Martial Arts & Fitness. The gym is clean, the students and Professor Jarod are very welcoming. The class was well balanced with drilling time, situationals and sparring.
Fantastic, committed coaches who care deeply about you, your progress, and your journey while delivering high quality, engaging instruction, and an amazing group of students of all ages and backgrounds who are all friends, look out for each other, and enjoy training together. It’s my home away from home.
Your first BJJ class at Next Level Martial Arts & Fitness
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
