Went there for a trial class and was overwhelmed at the care and kindness of everyone from instructor to training partners. The instructions and tips I received from their head coach was absolutely amazing. With a few words he helped me fix a lot of mistakes I was making.
I started at Cobrinha back in July of this year. I work as a high school teacher & wanted to learn some self defense. Being in my 40's I was a bit hesitant about taking bjj. I'm so glad I took the chance & started my bjj journey here.
This is a complete five star gym all around , Michael the head instructor is a phenomenal teacher. He has a way of adjusting to each individual and pushing everyone to be there best version. The gym is also extremely clean and well kept. It is an amazing family atmosphere that is very nice to be around!
What an amazing Jiu Jitsu gym!! Michael is a top notch instructor! You'll learn amazing technique. All of the students are helpful and everyone is made to feel like family. I'd highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a home gym to check it out!
Your first BJJ class at Movement Academy Jiu-Jitsu & Grappling
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
