From the reviews
We cannot say enough good things about MTBJJ! Everyone associated, such as Coach Rob, is so welcoming and kind! The kids really seem to have a great time, learn a lot and are taught how to be appropriate and respectful.
My family and I are visiting Prescott and and I wanted to continue training Jiu-Jitsu while we were away from home. I travel quite a bit and always try to hit the local gyms. I did a walk in to see if my 9-year-old son could get in with the children class. Mackenzie at the desk was super helpful and welcoming.
My daughters have been students at Mountain Tribe for the last 4.5 years. The kids program here is awesome- Coach Rob and Coach Hawk are both great at holding a high expectation of focus, discipline and hard work for the kids while also making it incredibly engaging and fun for them.
Prescott Mountain Tribe Jiu-Jitsu Academy is truly top-notch! The competitors here are fierce and dedicated, and the level of talent among the coaches and black belts is outstanding. The instructors are not only incredibly knowledgeable but also deeply invested in each student's progress.
Your first BJJ class at Mountain Tribe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
