My son and daughter saw a flyer and wanted to try Jiu Jitsu. I figured it would be a two time thing and they would grow bored of it. Man was I wrong. They started working with the team at MindState Jiu Jitsu and became quickly obsessed .
Really enjoying Mindstate Movement with Stephanie. Great midday classes focusing on movement, upper and lower body strength and flexibility. She has great knowledge of dance technique, the human body, and kindly makes sure I have correct form, both for the purpose of safety and for results.
Great coaching and training! I was in town visiting family and dropped in for No Gi on Thursday and Gi on Friday and was immediately welcomed by the owner and black belt Jeff along with his students that were there. The classes were great where Jeff gave very good instruction and had great attention to detail.
Absolutely thrilled with my experience at Mindstate Movement and Jiu Jitsu! The team here is truly wonderful, demonstrating not only their deep expertise but also their genuine care for each client. Their dedication to growth and well-being is evident in every session.
Your first BJJ class at Mindstate Jiu Jitsu and Movement
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
