From the reviews
There are not enough extraordinary words in the dictionary to describe what Sean and Mary have built here in Camden County. My family and I first met the McCleary’s during our time at Devine Jiu Jitsu in Brunswick and have been with them since they laid the ground work here in St. Marys.
We have been coming for almost 2 years now and love both of the black belt coaches. I love the teammates and instructions to learn proper techniques in jui-jitsu. I also enjoy our strength and conditioning classes by the licensed trainer, who is a lady black belt. There is a ladies only program, which is hard to find.
I had an amazing night dropping in at McCleary Jiu-jitsu! Sean and Mary were incredibly welcoming to me and allowed me to join in training with no issues. The technique taught was incredibly detailed and useful. The team of athletes at McCleary gave me very hard-fought rounds during sparring.
McCleary Jiu-Jitsu is a great gym with a lot of really great people. Sean and Mary are extremely knowledgeable and break things down in an easy digestible way to help you progress in your skills.
Your first BJJ class at McCleary Jiu-Jitsu Camden
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
