From the reviews
My family and I absolutely love level up and could not be more pleased with the entire staff!! About a year ago I was having trouble finding an activity that would keep my son engaged and off the screen.
I am blown away by the care and enthusiasm that both Coach Alex and Coach Meycy have for their students. I walked into my first class having no previous experience in martial arts of any kind, and hadn’t been to the gym in years. I was really worried I was going to be completely out of my element.
I highly recommend this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school! From the moment I was introduced to it, I felt welcomed and supported by the incredible instructors and fellow students. This school truly cares about its students, going beyond teaching martial arts.
My daughter started at Level Up Jiu Jitsu when she was 3 years old. She has learned so much over the last two years, not just about Jiu Jitsu, but also about being kind and helpful. Coach Alex is amazing. His patience and dedication to helping each student improve is unmatched.
Your first BJJ class at Level Up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Woodland Hills
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
