I’ve been practicing jiu jitsu for about a year at Iron Legion. This was my first experience learning jiu jitsu in my life and it’s been awesome. If you’re looking for quality instruction, this is the place.
What can I say other than this place is INCREDIBLE. Want to be fit and learn to defend yourself in one if the absolute best places in Florida? This is your spot. Coach Terrie’s classes are not only fun but very informative. I have trained at many other gyms and am happy to drive over ab hr to train here..
I've trained with and have been taught by Terrie. All of the lessons taught have always been nothing short of practical and efficient. Really happy that the curriculum for solid, well-rounded grappling (not just BJJ but all styles of submission wrestling) has been able to be taught in more than one location.
This program allows for all different skill levels with various schedules to participate and learn. It doesn’t matter your belt color, Terrie makes sure to build your confidence and ensure you take something away from class. Such a great way to better yourself inside and out.
Your first BJJ class at Jiu-Jitsu Iron Legion
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
