From the reviews
We have always been big fans of Isla, Jeff and his amazing family. They are purely about jiu-jitsu. No drama. Their skills do the talking. We wanted to show our love and support on opening day. Highly recommended. Good atmosphere. Clean gym. Good people. Great jiu-jitsu. Isla 🙏
This is the third Jiu-Jitsu school we’ve been a part of, and we’ve finally found our home at Isla. From day one, our entire family has been treated like family by the owners, coaches, and other members. There’s such a strong sense of community here—everyone is welcomed, valued, and supported.
Isla jiu jitsu is my favorite. Great jiu jitsu , great culture, good times and many laughs along the way. Whatever youre looking for in a jiu jitsu gym you can find it here. Scared to get hurt? Don't be they'll take care of you.
We have had an absolutely amazing experience at ISLA Jiu Jitsu Bonney Lake. My daughter started attending in August, and from day one the coaches and athletes made her feel completely welcome.
Your first BJJ class at Isla Jiu Jitsu Bonney Lake
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
