From the reviews
If you are driving from Fentress to Lockhart (East FM20 to West FM20), you will see the building on your right. You will see a large sign on the building that reads "INAKA 田舎Jiu-Jitsu." You will then be on a downhill slope and see a red mailbox 📪8009.
I’ve trained with George Ewing since 2009 and have always been impressed by his skill, leadership, and character. He’s not only an excellent martial artist and coach, but also someone who leads by example in terms of health, fitness, discipline, and integrity.
I've trained under George since 2019, and followed him to Inaka Jiu Jitsu in Lockhart, TX when he opened it. Now a purple belt, I can say a lot of that progress comes down to his coaching — he explains the why behind techniques, not just the how, and it makes everything click faster.
Inaka has been such a great fit for our family. The gym is welcoming and family-friendly with a supportive community. Members of all ages feel comfortable and motivated. Every class is taught with intention, care, and expertise. Coach has your back (literally) through all the training milestones.
Your first BJJ class at Inaka jiu-jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
