From the reviews
I've been training here for the past 2 years. From the moment I walked into the door, I was treated like family. Everyone took me under their wing to helped me learn Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Whenever I walk through the front door, I'm greeted by Malea, with a smiling face and a positive attitude.
Great gym, Sam the owner is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. I recommend the Jiu Jitsu classes for everyone from beginner to advanced. I appreciate that I have somewhere to come train when I am home visiting. I hope to continue training at Grit whenever I am home.
Grit training center is a top notch facility ran by an excellent staff. Sam Rauch is a world class martial arts instructor with decades of experience training and competing. I highly recommend Grit to anyone in the academy’s area who is interested in learning martial arts for sport or self defense.
I was on vacation in Montana, dropped in to see if I could roll and Sam had me sign a waiver and it was on! He gave me some pointers that I will DEFINITELY use on the mat from now on. Thanks Sam! You Rock! If you aren't having fun, you aren't doing Jiu Jitsu!
Your first BJJ class at Grit Training Center
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
