From the reviews
I joined VSS to help with specific strength and conditioning after tearing ligaments in my shoulder taking a bad fall. Over the past year I have gotten noticeably stronger, particularly in movements which rely on maintaining tension throughout the shoulders entire range of motion, which has helped me to feel confident…
Before I started training at Victory Submission, I honestly felt out of shape and unsure if I could keep up with something as intense as jiu-jitsu. I was nervous walking in that first day, but that changed fast.
Came across GSP on IG and one of the grappling seminars co-led by Matt (the owner) and Diana from OpenMatPhysio. I've been training under Brendan for the past year and he is such a positive and uplifting coach who pushes and grows his athletes (within their limits) and tailors their respective programs to their body…
When I first joined GSP(VSS at the time), I was total skeptic about the strength training will translate to the mat and my judo grappling. I couldn't have been more wrong. The "Performance Strength" difference was night and day.
Your first BJJ class at Grappling Strength & Performance
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
