We love Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu Mission Viejo. It’s our home and family for Jiu Jitsu. I have my 3 boys (ages 5-8) here for all of their training. We have been here for over 4 years and the professor is amazing. He is wonderful with kids and adults.
My two sons and I have been students at the academy for three years. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I was welcomed and treated like family since the first day I stepped into the mats. Professor Marcelo is an amazing instructor, mentor and friend.
Our kids love this place! The Ralph Gracie MV feels like family and the BJJ instruction is elite. Highly recommended for all ages. My 8 & 11 year old are learning self defense, self control, discipline and are now competing.
I've been bringing my kids here for years. They love it. It has taught them discipline and given them confidence, in addition to teaching them self defense. Professor Marcelo is great with the kids. He creates a fun learning environment, along with giving them good exercise.
Your first BJJ class at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Mission Viejo
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
