From the reviews
This gym and the people who run it have honestly changed my life. Always knew i wanted to try jujitsu but never got out and did it until i randomly decided to check this place out. I felt a little nervous my first day, but could really tell that Professor Lucas has an incredible heart and really knows what he’s doing.
We have been members at Gracie Barra since 2022. My kids (still littles) have benefited so much from it. Professor Fabricio, the coaches, and staff are so supportive and engaging with the kids. They make it fun for the little ones, and adjust their approach to a bit more serious for the older kids. Well done 👏
I put my daughter in jiujitsu to learn self defense, never had I imagined we would gain a family in the process. Two weeks after watching her train, I decided I wanted to be a part of the fun. We have been coming for about 4 months now and can’t imagine doing anything else. We learn from the best.
I really can’t say enough good things about this gym and Professor Jefferson! I put my little girl in jujutsu a couple of months ago and I have watched her confidence grow in so many beautiful ways. I love how this sport empowers children and adults alike in self defense.
Your first BJJ class at Gracie Barra Fort Collins - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
