From the reviews
Out of all the gyms I have been apart of across the country this school is by far my favorite. Professor Lucas’s mindset, positivity, knowledge and the way he coach’s each student is hands down the best I’ve ever witnessed. Both my sons as well as myself train here and it has become a second home.
Update: Since our trial class, my daughter has joined this facility but let me warn you: caution, your kids will become addicted and will want to come every day! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome without any pressure to commit.
The only regret you could ever possibly have is not showing up to check this place out. If your looking to increase your confidence, meet great people and improve social and leadership skills, full body workouts, better coordination, self defense, mental stamina, an amazing sport you and your whole family can do…
My 7 year old daughter, my husband and I have been coming here over a year and we love it! The coaches are very knowledgeable and great with the kids. My husband is very athletic and I am very unathletic, but they have classes that suit every level. Highly recommend!
Your first BJJ class at Gracie Barra East Mesa Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defense
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
