From the reviews
My grandchildren have been going here for about 7 months and they have learn a lot from the coaches. They don’t just teach self defense. They teach how to be helpful in the community. How to be kind to others. How to be a leader.
I have been bringing my 9yr old son here to the Academy since November 2018. I was looking for an extra curricular activity for him that could bring him out of his shell & build his confidence. He ended up loving it!
This has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for my children. My kids were somewhat reserved and timid in the past but with the proven and positive methods the coaching staff has provided them their confidence has grown so much farther than I would of ever imagined.
This academy is amazing! We are a military family and move every few years. I wanted somewhere for my son to go and feel a sense of stability. As well as to build his confidence, discipline and strength. We decided to give CMA a try and we don’t regret it one bit!! All of the coaches are amazing with the kids!
Your first BJJ class at Columbus Martial Arts Academy
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
