From the reviews
My 8-year-old daughter started jiu jitsu just this year at City Different jiu jitsu and she loves it ! Not only is she learning to be more disciplined and learning new skills but she earned new friends.
I decided to start training Jiu Jitsu and came to City Different. I wasn't sure what to expect but after attending the first class, I got hooked. It's something I look forward to everyday now. The Professors are super knowledgeable and go above and beyond to answer questions and ensure a safe learning environment.
If you're looking for more than just a Jiu Jitsu gym, CITY Different Jiu Jitsu is the place to be. This isn’t just a dojo—it's a family, and at the heart of it is Coach Vince. He is so much more than a coach; he’s a mentor, a guide, and a source of constant inspiration for every kid who steps through those doors.
City Different coaches are very passionate about their jobs. They come in and give their time to focus on the students not only during the week but on their days off as well. Coach Vince has helped our son improve on his skills and understanding of Jiu Jitsu. Coach Vince goes above and beyond and truly shows he cares.
Your first BJJ class at City Different Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
