From the reviews
Great place to learn BJJ. The adult and kids classes are great. Good instruction and a friendly environment to train in.
Nick was the catalyst for my entry into the world of jiu-jitsu when he was a blue belt and he was training at different school where I was doing Muay Thai only. His passion for the sport was infectious, and his encouragement gave me the confidence to take that first step onto the mat and give jiu jitsu a try.
The owner Gabby is the best! Such a great crew of people at this gym. You will feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. Whether or not, you are a beginner or a seasoned competitor you will get the instruction you are looking for at Bayside! They have an amazing kids program too.
Nick and Gabby are fantastic coaches. Both are active competitors with multiple great wins. Nick has helped me tremendously by incorporating my wrestling back into Jiu-jitsu; he is very patient and attentive to detail. Gabby is great with kids; every kid should partake in the Bayside Jiu-Jitsu program.
Your first BJJ class at Bayside Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a BJJ gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic positions and escapes with a partner — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and a mouthguard if you have one — many gyms lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi (or a rashguard and shorts for no-gi) and a mouthguard. Live rolling eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
